Iconic film: The birds (1963)

¡Feliz martes!

This year is the 50 anniversary of this iconic Hitchcock film, which has became a reference in the psychological terror films field.

Starred by Tippi Hedren (as Melanie Daniels), Rob Taylor (as Mitch Brenner), Jessica Tandy (as Lydia) and Suzanne Pleshette (as Annie Hayworth) "The Birds" explains the story of an uncontrolled and violent attack of the birds living in the quiet village of Bodega Bay (San Francisco, California).

Melanie Daniels, socialite and daughter of a rich magnate press, meets Mitch Brenner in a birds’ shop (who is a famous lawyer and very eligible bachelor). Melanie fells in love from the very first moment and she decides to bring the birds herself to his house. The idea is to leave the cage in Mitch’s house without making her presence visible, but he discovers her and invites Melanie’s to dinner. A series of birds’ violent attacks will turn the soiree in an endless nightmare…

Did you know it?

-Hitchcock hired Tippi Hedren after discovering her in a TV ad.

-Edith Head, the wardrobe designer, received strict orders concerning the colour for Tippi's designs. Hitchcock only wanted neutral and soft tones so as the colour wouldn’t divert the spectator from the tension of the film.

-The shooting of the film was a real nightmare for Tippi. According to her own words "Hitchcock was obsessed with me and I started to feel very uncomfortable as I didn’t know how to keep him under control”

-The final scene was a torture: she was locked up in a giant cage full of real birds which constantly attacked her. She was there for 5 say in a row and was near to loose and eye due to the pecks of the birds.

Happy Tuesday!
